Kendal's Column: Lifescouts #5

I'm sorry I've been away for 2 weeks but the fact is that I am a teenager with exams. Unfortunately, I am also in a permanent state of being chaotically organised person-no matter how hard I try to get it together. These two don't go well together but, I HAVE FINISHED MY EXAMS FOR THIS YEAR (may god have mercy on me in Year 11)

Baking Cookies
I baked cookies for the first time on Friday 15th February 2013 and why do I remember the date? It was the Friday before I met @BookFangirling for the first time and I wanted to have something to give her for being amazing. Admittedly, they weren't my best because it was the first time and my oven is stupid so they came out like a single giant square of cookie (sorry @Bookfangirling) BUT I have got a lot better because I started making them on Sundays during Dan and Phil's Radio Show so they got better as I started to figure out how my oven thinks.
The recipe I use is here and don't worry, they only didn't work at first because I have a fan oven which makes the hot air circulate, messing up predicted cooking times

Tree Climbing
We have a tree in our garden and ,when I was younger, I climbed it all the time because once you got to the top, there was a place you could sit and then you could see right across to the other side of the valley and in Spring you could see the lambs in the field next to the house without scaring them off.

Bike Riding
I learned to ride a (two wheel) bike when i was about 7. My dad took me to the path which lead to my primary school because cars couldn't get down there and that is where i learnt to ride a bike. It also happens to be where I fell of my bike...a lot.

Happy Friday!

MY BIG ANNOUNCEMENT #bookfangirlingblogbirthday

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you will have seen today that I was tweeting various things connecting to a 'big announcement' I was going to do.

This is the big announcement.

This blog is 1 year old on the 24th of June 2013. To celebrate, I wanted to do something really special. So, I have decided that from the 24th of June up until the 1st of July, I am going to be doing a BIG celebration!

Here is what I am planning to do so far:

  • A blog clean-up. Yep! I am going to change the style, look, font and everything else on my blog. I will go through my posts and delete the ones that are no longer relevant, modify the blog posts that are left and add things such as pictures on some that I originally promised you and it didn't end up happening. The whole of my blog is going to look different, cleaner, and it will be easier to read. I won't be deleting posts that you want me to keep and some of the more popular ones are going to stay.
  • A follow spree. For those of you who have blogger accounts of your own, I am going to be following you at your request. I am also going to be following a lot of other book related blogs and interacting a lot more with all of you. I will try to comment and share as many of your blog posts as I can, because I think you all deserve it as you are amazing writers!
  • Guest posts. I am going to have as many people guest posting as I can during that week.
  • Givaways. This depends on whether I can find good enough stuff to give away to you and how many people are willing to take part in givaway competitions. The items will probably be books, make-up, comic books, and other merchandise stuff. Things for both boys and girls!
  • A more professional service. I realise that I have been neglecting my blog pretty badly, and this is for various reasons that I really don't want to get into. Starting from that week, I will do everything in my power to make this a professional blog and somewhere that you will come to enjoy reading and build your confidence. I am going to do this for all of you.

I hope you will be willing to join me during this week of festivity, and perhaps forever after that! Tell everyone you know because I want as many people as possible to take part. You are all amazing people and I want to treat you all!

The Liebster Award!

I would like to say a massive thank you to Sarah Faulkner over at Inklined for her nomination of me for the Liebster Award!

The Liebster award is where Bloggers nominate other bloggers they like with 200 followers or less. Any type of blog can be nominated. It's a way to get to know new bloggers and to network with them. Here's how it works:

1. List 11 facts about yourself.
2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger who nominated you left.
3. Ask 11 new questions for those who you nominate.
4. Choose 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers to nominate.
5. Go to each blogger's page and let them know about the award.
6. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.  (I didn't realize this rule until after I wrote the above intro.)

My 11 facts:

  1. I am currently 16 years old.
  2. I love food.
  3. I am currently really stressed about exams.
  4. I play the violin. Badly.
  5. I am getting about 100% in my English Literature GCSE.
  6. My English teacher always says hi to me. He is a cool guy.
  7. I am a poetry snob (more about that in another post!)
  8. I love The Big Bang Theory with all my heart.
  9. Mayim Bialik is my girl crush and asdfghjkl.
  10. I have an IPhone 5 in black.
  11. I am addicted to nutella.

I got asked questions, so here are my answers!

1. If you could go to one concert for free, who would you see?

Either Ellie Goulding or Paramore. I can't decide!

2. If jelly stopped existing, how would you make a PB&J with something else as the J?

Jam. Because we say jam in England and not jelly. I hear there is a difference!

3. If you could go any one place, where would you go?

America. Preferably Florida. Preferably Disney World.

4. What, if any, channels are you subscribed to on Youtube?

Don't even get me started. Dan Howell, Phil Lester, Toby Turner, PJ Liguori, Chris Kendal, John and Hank Green, Michael Buckley, Brittani Taylor, Emma Blackery, AND I CAN'T REMEMBER ANY MORE NAMES BUT I SWEAR THERE IS AT LEAST 20 MORE PEOPLE I WATCH.

5. Chemistry or Physics?

Physics. Always physics.

6. Do you play in instrument?  If so, what?

The violin, guitar, and ukulele. I sing a bit too.

7. What's your favorite breakfast cereal?

Wheatabix because IT'S AWESOME.

8. How do you like your eggs cooked?  (If you're a vegetarian, how do you like your tofu cooked?)

Scrambled eggs are the one.

9. Do you listen to music while you blog?

Not usually. But I listen to music when I'm doing everything else. Mostly things I don't want to do.

10. What was the title of your first blog post?

Ooh, I can't remember. 200 blog posts on and all that. I think it was outlining what my blog was here for :')

11. Why did you start blogging?  (Stolen, I know.  But it's a great question.)

STORY TIME. I basically started blogging because I had a really low self esteem and I hated myself because I had only just gotten out of this massive fight with all of my friends. Basically something happened and I got all the blame for something I didn't do and everyone turned against me blablabla. I had read in a magazine about blogs and blogger seemed like the best site for me. I started a day before my first geography exam and... it started off everything I am proud about in my life now. This blog is literally my life saver. I ended up getting a B in my geography exam and I had to retake it but it was SO WORTH IT.

Here are my questions:
  1. Why did you start blogging? (stolen again but it is an amazing question)
  2. Do you have any regrets about starting your blog?
  3. Do you have a special talent?
  4. What do you hope for in the future?
  5. What kind of person do you want to be?
  6. How many Tumblr accounts have you got?
  7. Cats or dogs?
  8. Who is the most inspirational person for you personally?
  9. What is your favourite TV show and why?
  10. What is your favourite word?
  11. Do you share your blog with anyone (and if you do, why that person)?

I don't know whether I follow 11 blogs, but here are the people who I think deserve it:
  1. Arlette at Living Life Bright
  2. Carol at dizzy c's little book blog
  3. Heidi at http://www.heidigwrites.blogspot.co.uk/

Have a good day! And I'm sorry I haven't posted for a while,

Kendal's Column: A Little Game- WHAT IF TAG.

Whilst at the beach on Monday, walking around collecting driftwood for an art project, me and my friend started a game.
Basically, at the end of this post will be a scenario (something that would have a huge effect on humanity) and YOU have been tagged (by reading this post) to come up with a short story or idea of what would happening that situation. You can focus on it on a global scale or focus on an individual at the heart of the scenario.
Once you have your idea make a video of it, write it, draw it, tweet it or even fanfiction it. It can be as long or short as you want. There are only three rules:
  1. At the end of your post you have to give your own scenario for people to be tagged in and do there own 'what if' of. It can be as silly or serious as you want- IT JUST HAS TO BE A BIG EVENT something that would affect the masses it can be geographical, scientific, political, whatever you want- you just need to have something that will affect the majority!
  2. Some scenarios are probably going to be very unlikely but please don't rant to anyone about how unrealistic a scenario is.
  3. Please link back to this post at the end of your story so people know the rules and what the tag is.
Your response can also be as silly as you want it to be so have fun with it and please leave links to your stories in the comments or tweet them to me!

I think this would be a great way to keep entertained, get rid of writer's block or a good way to take a break from revising (which we all know is like grinding your head against a cheese grater)

Here is the situation: A mysterious crack in the earths crust under the sea has strangely opened and has seemingly swallowed the oceans.

Happy Friday!

Kendal's Column: Stay Strong and Carry On

It's coming up to exam season and the pressure/stress levels are high for most students.
If you are feeling down or stressed then there are a number of ways you can help yourself

  1. Don't bottle it up-This is possibly the worst thing to do.
  2. Don't overwork. step back and breathe- If you are cramming in lots of information into your brain you need to take breaks, even if you are unsure of the topic after  about 20 minutes revising, take a break (about 5 minutes) and then carry on. This will clear your brain and help information sink in more.
  3. Sit down with friends or family and say how you feel- Your friends will be going through the same amounts of stress and your parents may be able to offer you some help.
  4. Talk to me, @bookfangirling or use the Stay Strong And Carry On tumblr- If you feel like you can't talk to people at home then please don't hesitate to message either of us, we are happy to help in any way we can.
  5. Stay Strong- Exams will be over soon and then you have summer. Hold on to that.
